Ninth Circle has been electrifying audiences in Southern California with their live performances over the past several years. Whether it be a showcase, or a supporting act appearance, Ninth Circle has consistently given the audiences what they have been longing for, Metal with great hooks and melody, which is most often heard in European Power Metal.
The band's evolution started in 1987 when Frank Forray and Dennis Brown started what would be the first incarnation of Ninth Circle. Over the next several years, the band would go through several line-up changes, most notably with vocalists. The band's core of Frank Forray and Dennis Brown carried on. During the recording of their debut CD, a major set-back occured. Their vocalist, which had been preparing to record for several months, decided that the studio environment was not for him.
Having the basic tracks completed in just two weeks, the momentum of the project came to a halt. The next several months were filled with uncertainty for the band. Singing auditions proved to be little more than meeting other musicians who instantly wanted a record contract without having the vision or drive to succeed. The band decided to carry on as a three piece with Tony Chlup on drums, Frank Forray on bass and Dennis Brown on guitar and vocals. After all, Dennis filled in during times of transition when the band was without a vocalist. In the fall of 2000, Ninth Circle's self entitled debut CD was released and made it to #2 on MP3.com's Independent Metal Charts.
Two years later the band released its second CD "Fire in the Basement". The CD was basically a thank you to their local fans who had come their shows again and again throughout Southern California. It was never commercially released.
The next lineup of Ninth Circle featured Drummer Robert Gallegos as well as Frank and Dennis. The band continued to gig and play whenever and wherever. During this time, Frank and Dennis would continue writing material which would end up on their latest release "The Power of One". Their goal was to create a CD which would capture the spirit of Melodic Power Metal and basically a record that they themselves would want to hear.
As part of Ninth Circle's passion and quest to deliver such a record, they enlisted the assistance of Outland guitarist, vocalist, and producer, Jeff Prentice to produce "The Power of One". Jeff and Ninth Circle's relationship stretches over 10 years to when Jeff and Frank played in tandem in a Thin Lizzy Tribute band, to Jeff filling in as a session vocalist and rhythm/lead guitarist in the early days of Ninth Circle's evolution.
In December 2008, "The Power of One" was released. With a new and improved line-up featuring Dave Davis on drums, Ninth Circle is gathering momentum once again in support of their latest CD. As of April 2010, "The Power of One" has sold in twelve different countries and the band has supported such acts as: Lynch Mob, Love/Hate, Dokken, MSG, Primal Fear, Y&T, Paul Di'Anno and Hammerfall. Ninth Circle received seven nominations at the 2009 “South Bay Music Awards” and Dave Davis took home the award for “Best Drummer”.
In the summer of 2009, Ninth Circle re-released their debut album which has previous been out of print for nearly a decade. Dubbed as "in your face melodic metal from Southern California's premier powerhouse trio", this remastered CD includes two songs left off of the original pressing. Although the recording was digitally remastered, the raw energy and and power was preserved and is apparent on the band's signature debut.
